When God Was Helpless

We have all heard sermons and songs that emphasize God's power and rightfully so. He is powerful but this morning I was listening to the song Mary Did You Know when my favorite phrase in the song got me to thinking: "Mary did you know that when you kissed your baby, you kissed the face of God?" I have heard that song today, it got me to thinking.

God who spoke the universe into existence, choose to limit His power by coming to earth as a helpless baby. He could not feed himself, He depended on His earthly parent. He could defend himself when Herod's hit men were sent to kill him; His parents fled to keep him safe.

I think God has a sense of humor. The Jewish people were expecting a powerful military and God sent a baby born of humble parents! God was born of a virgin - helpless but when He returns to earth, He will come in all His power and glory as a King!

Right? Fair?

Recently, President Obama declared that if he is reelected, he will do everything in his power to see that gay marriage would become legally recognized throughout our nation. During his speech, two words caught my attention. Words that were carefully chosen that would appeal to potential voters. The words chosen were words, in a general context, are principles that many of us would not disagree.

The first word I call to your attention is the word “right.” This is a favorite word of the “politically correct” crowd. Everyone should have the “right” to be happy. When our founding Fathers created our Constitution, the phrase “…the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…” did not extend to legalizing a deviant lifestyle as a “right.” This could only open the floodgate to all kinds of “rights.”

The second word he chooses was “fair.” I mean who could be against “fairness? It is only ‘fair’ to grant same-sex marriage the same status and legal rights as heterosexual couples. I have news for our President, life is not fair. This is the same foundation for his economic ideology. It isn’t “fair” that some people are rich and others are poor. Therefore, the only “fair” thing is for the rich to share the fruits of their hard labor. But this fails to take into consideration that some “poor” people are third generation welfare, while others are just abusing the system. 

I am not against helping the truly poor, the Bible even commands us to, but there is a big difference between a “helping hand” and a “hand out.” Most Americans realize how far we have strayed from the founding principles of the original but most will  allow the radical left to force their agenda down our throats.

Mother's Day

In a few days, it will be Mother’s Day. For some this can be a difficult time of the year, especially for those whose mother is no longer with us. For them, Mother’s Day is a painful reminder of the void left by the dear person who gave them life. For some, it may be the loss of a grandmother or aunt who raised them. For others who never knew their mother, this time of year reminds them of that cruel reality. In each case, it is not easy to feel like celebrating on the day we honor our mothers.

But God understands the comfort only a mother can give and He promises to comfort us “as a mother comforts her child.” Our Savior experienced loss and who can gently wipe away the tears from our cheeks just as our mother did. Though our earthly mothers can never be replaced, Jesus can comfort us with the tenderness and strength of a mother’s love.

Guard Your Heart

May 28, 1987 found Matthias Rust [19] taking off from the Helsinki, Finland airport in a small Cessna aircraft. He flew 400 miles through some of the most guarded Soviet airspace. He was "shadowed" several time by Soviet MIG jets but no one want an attempt to stop him.   He eventually lands his small Cessna aircraft in Red Square by the Kremlin. The event proved to be an immense embarrassment to the Soviet government and military.

To make matters worse it was on THAT day Russia was honoring the Border Force of Russia, which protects Russian's borders. While the whole country was focused on celebrating the Russian guards, a teenage amateur pilot was able to breach their border unchallenged.

The repercussions in the Soviet Union were immediate. Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev sacked his minister of defense, and the entire Russian military was humiliated by Rust's flight into Moscow. Many political analysts believe this event was the beginning of the fall of Communist Russia. And it was all because they did not effectively guard their borders.

Proverbs 4:23 says, "Guard your heart above all else,for it determines the course of your life."  King Solomon, who wrote the Book of Proverbs,  was credited to be the wisest man that ever lived. It would be prudent for us to heed his warning. Guard your heart!
